To refer to the fashions of the Victorian era, the time of which the book is set, I made a Pinterest board of different thing I found on-line. This includes Victorian illustrations and photography. It was particularly useful to look back at these when drawing out Mrs Medlock as the clothing of a servant is very distinctive. I kind of guessed what clothes Mary would be wearing, I had a pretty good picture in my mind of what she would look like.
